Brian Burns founded Platform Capital in 2016, expanding the investment portfolio to include companies in special situations and also a commercial real estate platform.
Prior to founding Platform Capital, Brian was a Partner at Pine Street Growth Partners in Denver, CO. Pine Street was an independent sponsor investment firm focused on growth investments in the lower middle market.
Brian played a key role in the four investments acquired by Pine Street from 2010 to 2015.
In 2008, Brian joined a middle market private equity firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a Principal where he was responsible for sourcing investments and day-to-day management of several portfolio companies in the following industries: commercial glass, waste industry equipment rental, and consumer specialty finance.
Brian began his career in the Global Corporate Finance Division at Arthur Andersen in Chicago where he participated in the successful turnaround of several middle-market companies.
In 2002, Brian joined Alvarez & Marsal, a New York-based interim management firm and participated in the successful turnaround of Levi Strauss, the buyout and IPO of Dresser-Rand Group by First Reserve Corporation, and the acquisition and integration of several companies in the recreational sports industry.
Brian’s financial and operational experience as a turnaround professional has created an investment approach that is focused on driving value through sound operational and financial discipline while serving as a catalyst to companies in need of change.

As an operating partner, Todd Burns joined Platform Capital in 2016 and serves as on-site interim management in special situations. Todd also actively participates in the sourcing and management of real estate opportunities.

In 2000, Todd began his career in Chicago in the tax group at Arthur Andersen and then joined the audit practice at Ernst & Young. In 2005, he participated in the MCI Worldcom bankruptcy while at Huron Consulting Group and in 2006, joined Alvarez & Marsal, a New-York based interim management firm.
Todd’s operational experience and financial background has created a unique hands-on approach focusing on ground-level procedural execution to achieve desired results.
Todd holds a B.S. in marketing from Bradley University, his commercial real estate license in Colorado, and completed accounting coursework at the University of Illinois.

Mr. Stocks formed Elston Capital Partners, LLC (“ECP”) in 2011 to continue his investment activities as an independent sponsor. Currently, he is invested in two companies, JPC Holdings, LLC, a precast concrete manufacturer based in Bethel, NJ and, in partnership with Platform Capital Holdings, LLC, PCP – Dimco Holdings, LLC, a scrap metal recycling/steel service business located in DeKalb, IL.
Prior to forming ECP, Mr. Stocks served as a managing director of Starboard Capital Partners, LLC from 2005 to 2011 where he began investing in the engineering & construction space. Immediately prior to joining Starboard, Mr. Stocks held the position of Senior Vice President, Corporate Development for Genergy, Inc., a New York based energy services provider along with serving as CFO of its related electrical contracting company.
His earlier experience includes nearly 30 years divided approximately equally in three primary areas as follows:
- Mergers & Acquisitions – including capital-raising and sell-side assignments with The Buckingham Group (a company he co-founded), MASI Limited and Business Search as well as investing experience with Trivest, Inc., a Miami based private equity group.
- Operating Positions – including several years as Chairman & CEO of The Park Corporation, a $130 million private label food company and prior experience as chief operating officer of Richelieu Foods, a $150 million holding company controlled by Trivest, Inc.
- Financial Positions - including three chief financial officer positions in middle market companies and early treasury/financial analysis experience with Baxter International and Northwest Industries, Inc., both Fortune 500 public companies.
Mr. Stocks is a former Trustee of St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy and past chair of its Finance Committee.

Matthew T. Ryon serves as Senior Vice President and Senior Counsel for Associated Bank (NYSE: ASB) in Chicago, IL, where his practice focuses on commercial lending and restructuring. Prior to joining Associated Bank, Mr. Ryon was an attorney at Barrick Switzer in Rockford, IL where he handled a variety of commercial transactions and commercial litigation. Mr. Ryon serves on the board of directors of the portfolio companies of Platform Capital.

Tyler C. Sadek, CFA
Tyler has worked for the past seven years engaging strategy and acquisitions activities, including supporting board level oversight for several operating companies at Teays River Investments, LLC, a private holding company focused on food and agribusiness headquartered in Zionsville, IN. He brings a decade of transaction and valuation experience to the team. Previously, he was an investment consultant, providing advisory services for foundations, endowments and private clients at Stifel Nicolaus & Co., Inc. Prior to that he helped raise capital and establish Campus Outreach, a non-profit in Indianapolis. Tylerbegan his career at LaSalle Bank Corporation, member of ABN AMRO Group. Tyler earned a Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance and Accounting from Goizueta Business School of Emory University and Masters of Business Administration from theUniversity of Chicago Booth School of Business. Mr. Sadek is a CFA Charterholder.
